Miscellaneous Wednesday News

- Our new rival to the south, finally announced their new head coach, just in time for their final tryout camp which opens today. Read the article here: http://www.albertleatribune.com/news/2008/jul/30/thunder-introduces-new-head-coach/

- Side note to the people who are complaining about the Express roster not being released to the public: The Albert Lea Thunder's final camp is closed to the public. At least we were able to watch the Express tryout camp. So the Express aren't the only franchise that keep their cards close to the vest.

- The Express have announced the ticket prices for the 2008/09 season. You can see the entire breakdown here: http://www.expressjrhockey.org/tickets.htm Call and get yours today, and lock up the best seats available.

- Are the Express playing at the 4 Seasons all year??? This could be just an oversight by the league's scheduling people, but they have all the Express home games being played at the 4 Seasons. this includes 2 games against North Iowa on February 27 & 28, and a game against the Outlaws on March 15th. It was talked about at the early organizational meetings that maybe the late season/playoff games could be played in the west rink at the 4 Seasons, instead of having to move to Faribault/Kasson. Could somebody within the organization either confirm or deny this please??

- Expect some Express related news in the Friday issue of the People's Press.

Jeez, the prices are too darn high for my family.

“I wanted someone this time that had more junior and college experience,” team owner Barry Soskin said. “That was the only addition that put on the qualifications.”

there wasn't anything in Zangs profile that impressed me. Must be slim coaching pickings this time of year.

As far as tickets. $2 less than before is a start. I'm sure there will be family night offers, and flex plans offered to save money also.

Just a thought, they should offer League wide free passes for people that BUY season tickets. Like 1 pass for every 2 season ticket purchased. To use them, they will more than likely bring someone with that'll have to buy a ticket. Just a thought.

I wonder if it's Soskin or Zangs that closed final tryouts. So much for getting the public in Albert Lea ready for hockey season.

"there wasn't anything in Zangs profile that impressed me." My thoughts exactly FGG. I think Mr Soskin had very few options after Willett left. Any prosepctive coach would have had to wonder why a new coach would quit just a month into his term. On top of that, it was relatively late in the off-season, and most coaches have already firmed up their plans.

Just a question to the guy that says the ticket prices are still too high. How much does it cost you to take your family to a movie, or some other family entertainment spot? I think exciting Jr hockey is a good value for the money. Also, how do we expect the team to be sucessful? They have to make money. There are many expenses involved to run a team like this. I think we should support them.

Hey, come fall their will coaches up for grab like players.

Coaches can be fired and replaced.

ps $2.00 ticket price reduction is not enough. Its kind of insulting with the price of gas and munchies increasing.

B2 is another option. About 7 bucks per game, less if you buy the season pass, for those on a money budget and don't have the extra entertainment money.

The Express will play their final regular season game and any playoff games at Shattuck, according to both Bill Stewart and Pat Cullen.

The Owatonna newspaper needs to quit bothering Pat Cullen about who is on his roster for the year....they will know soon enough. Cullen is not going to be like Matt Romaniski and give in and tell who is on the roster. If they do not put a stop to it, I think all of us should write Mr. Stauffer and the sports editor about this. All they are going to do is alienate Cullen even more.

Dear SMNEXPRESSFAN: When did you give up your first amendment rights?

Ian needs to be replaced for my view.

Also, Cullen is not a VIP and he should be more friendly and approachable to all.

I mean, we are paying his salary right? Least he could do is be MN nice.

Duly noted Gents!

Perhaps a few big wigs can incorporate this idea, but really the pen is very mighty and Ian is working in a little town doing his best.

Also, Pat Cullen needs to polish his personality when dealing with the paper.

All this becouse Pat doesn't want to give out the roster. Lets grow up and let Pat do what he does. WIN GAMES!! Look at all the OTHER teams that HAVEN'T listed there ROSTERS YET! We are not the ONLY TEAM PEOPLE!

"$2.00 price reduction is not enough. It's kind of insulting with the price of gas and munchies increasing."

So why should the Express roll back prices then? The price of operating a team doesn't decrease when the economy is like it is in its current state. The Wild aren't reducing prices. The issue here should be with oil companies, not with a NAHL hockey team.

True, but the team needs our support right? That means we have to buy tickets (no more free ones) and we have to buy munchies and beer?

Well if we have to spend about $50.00 per game for two people to attend, it is expensive!

You spend $30 a game on "beer and munchies"? Here's a thought, eat at home before you go to the game. As far as beer goes, my gang would go make a beer run at the car between periods to get our beer fix in cheaply.
