In case you missed it in the local fishwrap today (That is slang for newspaper to the people who don't listen to The Common Man or Jim Rome), the Express signed a new player to a tender. His name is Josh Daley and he played last year for Bishop Canevin and the Pittsburgh Predators in Pennsylvania. Looks like he is a tall (6'3"), offensive threat, scoring 160 points in 76 games in high school. Read the article here:

Looks like a great signing, and I hope he ends up in a one of the new Express jerseys. The article mentioned that Des Moines and Green Bay in the USHL are still interested in him. I found it interesting that his advisor is Rochester native Shjon Podein.
Welcome to Owatonna Josh Daley!

Have watched Daley play alot in Pittsburgh and am impressed with his scoring touch, play making skills, and vision on the ice. He led his Predator team in scoring while beginning the year as the 3rd or 4th line player, and playing out of position at wing most of the year. He was voted as a Stellar Six player in the Pittsburgh area. His main weakness as I see it now is his weight. He luckily weighs 160 - 165, but he has a big frame and is a young 1990 (born in November)so should fill out. Rumor has it that Saginaw in the OHL is interested in him. One of his friends, Tyler Murovich, already plays there.
I couldn't fault him for choosing to play in the OHL. If he truly does value his education, Coach Cullen placed something like 20 players into college programs in his first 2 years, and a bunch of those were WCHA schools.
By the way, thanks Pappy for joining in the conversation. This is what I envisioned when I started the blog, with people pitching in their 2 cents worth on hockey related discussion.

What do the coaches have with sending kids to college? You would think its the kids performance themselves rather than anything to do with the coaches.
The coaches have a lot to do with the kids going to college. You need to look no further than the number of Express players from years 1 & 2 versus year 3 that signed to play in college. The coaches in the NAHL need to be calling the college coaches and pimping their players. In my opinion, if Coach Cullen had stayed with the club last year, CJ Willms, Ben Beaudoin, Vince Unklesbay, Brian Arrigoni, Tim Kirby, Kyle Olson, and Dustin Skinner would all have been committed to college programs before the end of the season.
Several of those kids are going. And a couple are getting looks.
This Daley kid was apparently a member of the Select 17 Showcase too. I think he finished somewhere within the top 8 in points up their too. That says a lot about the kid and his skills.
Several players turned down D1 spots. Alaska, U Conn, AIC, Mercyhurst.
