Article from Friday's People's Press

Read it here: http://www.owatonna.com/news.php?viewStory=27778

The article was basically an interview with Bill Stewart, and covered alot of the topics that have been discussed here. Bill answered alot of questions that have been brought up since the inception of the team. The article mentioned that General Manager Rick Kolz is an unpaid volunteer. Hopefully this team will make it financially, and he can get a paycheck somewhere down the line. Thanks Rick, and thanks to the 6 other members of the board of directors, the donors, the volunteers, and everybody else that had a part in bringing NAHL hockey back to Owatonna. It is because of you that we'll have a team on the ice in a little over a month.

Can they please find a volunteer to fix the website. Even an eteamz site would look better and its easy to set up.

You have to admire the people of Owatonna that are keeping the program going. Those that are business people, though, seem to be making a wise decision. I know that when we were there for the tryouts we spent well over $1000 at local businesses. We had 2 rooms at the Microtel Inn for 4 days. Ate at several different local restaurants, stopped at Cabela's, purchased gas, etc. As the season goes on, we, as well as the other parents and friends of players on the team will continue to do this, as well as our boys will be living in your town for the next 8-9 months spending money. It has a ripple down effect on the economy.

From what I heard, you can expect some major improvements on the website in the near future.

The stuff addressed in the article would be good stuff to have in the game program as a FAQ sort of feature.

Thanks to Bill for FINALLY setting the record straight.

Question, dont Billets get free tickets?

Ian said...

Yes, billets get free tickets.

Ok, now I am confused, why do Billets get free tickets if volunteers dont?

What about us parents? I thought we received tickets for free to attend the home games?

Pa;

Yes, parents of players will receive a maximum of 2 adult and 2 child tickets for each home game for free.

It's great that there are so many volunteers-- the organization couldn't even begin to exist without them. That being said, it takes a little more effort to open your home 24/7 for 9 months to a 19 year old and his friends. The monthly fee paid by the player or his parents doesn't even cover the food much less the room and board expenses incurred by the billets. Ever tried to feed a grown 19 year old hockey player for $250 a month? I think 2 free tickets to watch the boy they house is the least we can give them. I'm sure the organization will find a way to show appreciation to all game night volunteers. Again, without them, we've got nothing.

I know how, sell tickets and push merchandise.
