With not much else to blog about until the guys report for training camp, I want to kill some time with selecting the "1st Annual Big Kahuna All-Time Express Team". Ultimately there will be a 20 man all-time roster, and a starting lineup of the all-time best players. Now I will ultimately make an educated decision on who the players will be, but you have the opportunity to make your case for a player via the comment section, so let's hear what you have to say. The selections will be based on what they did while they played for the Express.
We will start with selecting the All-Time Express Goalies. We will need one starter and one backup. The nominees are:
- Nick Hopper - 2005/2006 - Regular season record was 31-8-4-3 with a 2.61 GAA. Joined the Express part way into the inaugural season, and was spectacular in goal helping the Express catch and pass the Fargo-Moorhead Jets to win the Central Division title. Currently playing with the Tri-City Storm of the USHL and is committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
- Erik Largen - 2005/2006 - Came to the Express towards the end of the season, and was phenomenal in the playoff run to the Robertson Cup, posting a 6-0 record with a 1.39 GAA. Currently playing hockey with the University of Alaska - Fairbanks.
- Lars Paulgaard - 2006/2007 - Solid and durable, played in 51 regular season games posting a record of 30-18 with 2.54 GAA. He was a rock in the nets for the Express during the 2nd season. Currently playing hockey at the University of Denver in the WCHA.
- Scott Pederson - 2007/2008 - 18-15-4 with a 3.78 GAA playing behind a defense with some questionable talent. Absolutely dominant at times, and very good in shootouts. Currently playing hockey in ?????????.
Allright, make a case for your guy in the comments section.

Gotta go with Paulgaard due to the fact he pretty much carried the load in 06-07 in the regular season and playoffs once Bashor left the team.
Hopper gets the backup nod due to him solidifying the goaltending during for an Express expansion team. Not so good in the playoffs though.

Ditto on Paulgaard but I'd go with Largen as backup. You can't get better backup than what he did the previous season.
BK, I think Pederson is bypassing more jrs. to play at St. Mary's in Winona.
Pederson was pretty good during the season but choked during playoffs.

is this fantasy necessary?
are we bored?
Pete - Thanks for the update on Pederson.
"nick graves:0" - Look what he did in Alpena after he left here, and he is currently in the USHL. He might have been the best goalie in Express history if he had the chance with a better team in front of him.
"is this fantasy necessary?
are we bored?" - Yes and yes.

our new goalies are not as good as we have had. put that together with our new team d which consist mostly of young, green, unphysical guys and we may have a very long year.
BK;
This year our team and coach face a great many obstacles. Face it, the team will not be a driving force no matter which way you spin it.
My guy isnt listed, but I will go with Hopper.
Wonder how our goalies will be this year.
"our new goalies are not as good as we have had." - At this point of the season you may be right, but I will counter with 2 names: Andrew Ross & Blake Bashor. Those were the starting goalies at the beginning of seasons 1 & 2 respectively. Point being, this team will evolve, and you have to faith that the organization will add and subtract players much the way it happened the first 2 seasons, until this team is competitive in the NAHL.

"This year our team and coach face a great many obstacles. Face it, the team will not be a driving force no matter which way you spin it." - Your glass is half empty, my glass is 3/4 full.

Going back to the Nick Graves comments.....I believe we did not get to see his potential as a goalie while playing with the Express. I think he was a better goalie than what it showed.
Graves was fine, the Mr. Empty Head Matt was terrible.
I will have to go with Hopper also. Who is keeping tract BK???
I didn't include Graves as an option because he just didn't play enough games with the Express. If the change in ownership/coaches didn't happen, I think he would have been one of the top handful of goalies in the NAHL last year.

"I will have to go with Hopper also. Who is keeping tract BK???" - I already have a good idea who the All-Time team will be, but I'm giving all you guys and gals a chance to chime in with your opinions. Ultimately though, it will be my choice. When it comes to choosing the starting lineup, I might set it up as a poll so you guys can vote.

Graves told us he left because he did not get on well with the Schneider kid.
Hopper
Off topic, did either of the coaches play jr. A hockey? Just wondering.
no, i do not believe either of the coaches played jr. hockey.
bk, maybe you can give us a background writeup on what, if any, actual hockey experience they have.
I couldn't find much of a history for either coach, other than what is printed in the bio on the Express website. Coach Fink apparently played some with the South Suburban Steers which eventually became the Twin Cities Northern Lights. There has been a few different "Pat Cullen's", and I can't tell which one is our Pat Cullen.

"check out hockeydb.com" - Yeah, that's the first place I tried, and it probably is him, but it has him listed as from Ontario. I didn't want to post it unless I was positive.

So Fink was Jr. B. And nothing affirmative about Coach Pat?
"So Fink was Jr. B. And nothing affirmative about Coach Pat?" - Why is it so important to find out? What difference does it make? The only thing that matters is if they can coach in the NAHL, and we already know the answer to that question....a definitive yes.
This topic is going nowhere. If you want to give an opinion on the All-Time Express team goalies post it here, everything else will be rejected.

This is not working. Post something else.
had to go to the dentist today to get a cleaning and exam.
other than that, not else much going on here
