Player Profile - Tony McDonald

Tony McDonald - 5'10"/170lbs - Forward

1988 birth year from New Brighton, Minnesota. Tony was acquired from the Kenai River Brown Bears in a trade shortly before the NAHL draft. The Express traded their 3rd and 5th round draft picks for his rights. He played his high school hockey at Totino-Grace, scoring 15 goals and 36 assists his senior year (06/07). He participated in the 2006 Fall Elite league, the 2006 Minnesota Model Camp, and the 2007 Ted Brill Great 8. He was drafted by the Sioux Falls Stampede in the 15th round of the 2007 USHL draft, and also attended their tryout camp this summer. Last season he played 3 games at the showcase with the Alexandria Blizzard, before being traded to Kenai River. He was chosen as the NAHL's South Division Player of the Week December 27th. He ended up the 4th leading scorer(11 goals/19 assists) for the Brown Bears, and would have been one of their key players this year, but he wanted to play his last year of juniors closer to home.

My take: As a guy with a year of juniors under his belt, he'll be looked on to provide some quality minutes for the Express. He kind of reminds me of Vince Unklesbay from last year's team. Hopefully getting out of Alaska and being able to play closer to home, translates into even better scoring numbers than he put up last year. I think this was a good move for the Express, getting a known quantity for 2 draft picks that may or may not have panned out in the long run.

Welcome to Owatonna Tony McDonald, and see you in September.

Getting back to my question about billets being donators and all. The person I spoke was very nice but was unable to go against the wishes of the group? whatever.

Dont worry about it anymore, our son may not join your team afterall.

Thanks.

Don't know where this billet/donator thing is coming from.....

We have been approached several times in the last 2 weeks, to billet a player, and we have NOT donated any money to the cause.

Not sure where this billet/donator stuff is coming from.....

We have been approached several times in the last couple of weeks about billeting a player, and we have NOT donated to the cause at all.

The people who donated and plan on being billets want this team and hockey to keep going in Owatonna. People who were billets last year enjoyed hosting and following the team, regardless of how last season went. Last season is just that, it is in the past now. We have something to look forward to now, our own team from Owatonna....back to how things should be for the team.

People donated money for this team to keep Junior A hockey going in Owatonna, enough said!

You people are a very sad display. I will be taking my son elsewhere.

The last anonymous is probably DR. Evil yapping it up to try to make the new Express organization look bad.

"You people are a very sad display. I will be taking my son elsewhere." - While I truly hope this wasn't an actual parent deciding not to send his/her kid here, I'm a little skeptical over the circumstances.

the power of anonymity, time to make people register to post on here.

Dr. Evil already did take his son elsewhere. He is going to lead the MCM in minus points

Actually, IMO, there is something to the player desires to not want to be with an owner/donor billet family.
I wouldn't.
I would much rather house with some nice family who was not affiliated with the team. I am sure there are families who want to be billets but are in the back of the line behind the usual billets that just happen to be owner/donors. The team should be sensitive and consider this.

The team last season was filled with a great group of fine young men.

We enjoyed the season , had fun and and hope this season we get a good bunch of nice young men also. In our opinions, last season was much better than season one. I hope this year is as good or better than last year.

Hang in there and keep up the good work!

We all may not see eye to eye but we all support the team!

I'm not a billet, but I'm a donator to the team. I can't speak for anyone but myself. I donated becouse I love hockey and someday I can say with PRIDE that I helped young men with there hockey careers. As a bouns, I can make some new friends along the way.

"Whats wrong BK" - What do you mean? Things are cool, only 25 days until the boys report. I can't wait.
