Player Profile - Troy Puente

Troy Puente - 5'9"/185lbs - Defenseman

1988 birth year from Thousand Oaks, California. Troy spent the last 2 seasons in the NAHL with the Texas Tornado. In 2006/2007 he played in 64 games, scoring 2 goals and 7 assists. In 2007/2008 he played in 61 games, scoring 2 goals, 33 assists, and finished +1. He was teammates with forward John Kruse, who will also play with the Express this season. He has played in the last 2 Chowder Cup Tournaments, and also spent some time with the LA Junior Kings Midget Major program. Check him out in action here: http://www.texastornadobc.com/Galleries/New_TTBC_Galleries-INDEX/Player%20Pictures/2007-2008%20Player%20Pics/04%20Puente/index.html

My take: I look for Troy to be the veteran leader of this young team, and it wouldn't surprise me if he was named captain. He has good vision on the ice, and is very good at passing the puck. For those of you who attended tryout camp, he was the defenseman sporting the stylish "Fu Manchu" moustache. I chatted with him a couple of times at camp, and he seems very personable, and well-spoken. He needs to play a big role with the Express this year, and I hope he is up for it.

Welcome to Owatonna Troy Puente.

he is short. wont do well.

Being short does not mean that he cannot continue to do well. His weight is good.

This year will be very hard hitting physical and in most of the other teams they work on that, so our coach needs to re-think the game for that adjustment.

Interesting: Season ticket prices seem fair but I dont understand why the following is not included:
Beer bucks,
Rain checks
Playoff tickets.

Seems like that was part of the issue with Dr. Evil last year. I think the board should consider this for season tickets. Otherwise whats the big deal saving a buck or two.

The beer bucks thing got a bad rap last year, because it was costing somebody alot of money to give away "free" beer. That's when the whole "counterfeit" beer bucks rumor was created, which allowed somebody to quit accepting them. I think beer bucks could work, but they gave out way too many last season. The rain checks problem goes all the way back to the first season. I never understood why this was allowed. I have never seen it work that way in any other sport, and it didn't work here. That was a necessary move, and one of the smartest decisions they have made thus far.

I got my free stuff last summer before the team sold. In fact Brenda Swenson gladly gave us some free tickets and the like and it was not done without the original owners consent.

Why do some of my questions not get posted?

I am respectful, polite and do not bash.

I just ask alot of questions.

Big Kahuna said...

"Why do some of my questions not get posted?" - I have to approve all comments before they are posted. If I am away from my computer, then there is a delay. Since I went to this system middle of last week, there has been only 2posts which I rejected. The first one was rejected for profanity, and the second one was earlier today. It was slandering a former employee of the Express, and I will not let that kind of stuff on the blog. That's it, every other post has been approved.

Point of clarification: When I said that the one rejected post was for slandering, I mean actual slander, not just negativity. The poster was insinuating that a former employee of the Express had been doing some naughty things. I will not risk getting shutdown by printing that kind of stuff.

Question?

How can anyone get shut down by trash talking? Heck thats all we did last year and some of us continue to do this year in GR.

Enlighten us BK?

Big Kahuna said...

"How can anyone get shut down by trash talking?" - You can't get shut down for trash talking. I could get shutdown or potentially sued if it crosses the line into slander or libel. Is it a giant gray area?? Absolutely. Do I know when it has crossed the line?? Not necessarily. What I do know is the post that was rejected was way over the line.

Man, we sure are an unpopular group on Glassrattler.

Check it out, they did a poll about us.

Eric:

Do not fret about AL. Dont talk to much as they may kick us around.

Also, who cares. Focus your energy here.

Remember, when you talk about people/etc., it shows them your weakness and insecurity or jealously. They gain power not lose it.

Well said;

If you have interest to do this;read about successful people or companies; they usually are bad mouthed by competitors and the like;but rarely if at all do they respond. Kind of like soaring with the eagles. The better you are or the higher you climb up the ladder the more people try to bring you down.

These successful ones, do not waste time or energy worrying about what others in most cases less successful positions etc., think and focus on their goals not those of their competitors.

Eric, think about our team and forget about the rest.
They most likely dont give a thought about you or us.

Playoff tickets are included, at least frojm what I see on the website.....

Anonymous said...

Shouldnt they be? I mean in this economy the team has to bend also.

Anonymous said...

so then in these economic times, operating a team costs less therefore they can afford to cut prices on everything?

Anonymous said...

Not everything, but they will need to adjust IF they want to stay afloat.

Anonymous said...

Oh for goodness sakes; all across the US, prices are slightly falling to support sales, should the team sales be any different?

Do you want to charge $50 bucks for a sweatshirt this year vs $40 last year?

Don't order a lot of Merchandise cause man that is expensive and very few will buy for that price.

Anonymous said...

Yes, merchandise should always be priced to move and not so much to make the 50% the clothing industry shoots for. After all, an Express Sweatshirt not only is clothing but is also advertising for the team. Get it out there ASAP!!

As far as ticket prices go, like it has been previously posted, $2 off of last years prices is a good start. You can't expect freebies and cheap "munchies and beer" just because the economy is horrible right now. I think you'll find the money spent going to an Express game is much less than going out to eat and having drinks at a bar.

Fortunately for the team, hotel and fuel expenses will be reduced due to the addition of AL and the subtraction of Fargo.

But going out for a fine meal with my family gathered around the table and all is priceless.

Much rather spend it that way.

I will be shocked if they don't include a beer buck thing or playoff tickets. I saw one of the present board members go off on Dr. Evil in Kasson because beer bucks. It was embarrassing.

Our son made the team and will be moving to Owatonna very soon. Because of our own personal reasons; we do not wish, nor does he, for him to billet with a family that has donated to the team. We have requested this. Not to seem bias, we do not want to rock the boat already but it seems all the host familes to date are donators?

This is important to us and it appears the billets/donators are self fullfilling their needs first.

Anonymous said...

For the past 2 years we never spent a dime on tickets. (Thanks to the former, former owners group).
Now, even with a discount we will need to pay apprx. $40 just to get into the rink for a game. WOW that is mucho money.

Playoff tickets are included, check the web.

"billets are self fullfilling their needs first" can you explain.

I know for a fact that last year Schneider and Romaniski spent time on forums like this pretending to be different people trying to make it look like they were fans with differing points of view hoping to cause trouble. They wanted attendance to drop last year so it would help thier case to move, or so I was told. It appears that they might be doing the same thing now hoping for this tema to fail.

As far as the comment about the curent board member going off about beer bucks in Kasson. I was standing there when that happened. It was not about beer bucks it was about ticket vouchers. His point was that people/ companies had to pay for those vouchers to get them, and he was not taking them now. He was not rude but stated his case very clearly. The only other person standing there was Gil, so Gill if you were embarrased that's too bad. It was a comment made, no yelling, no swearing, just a statement.

is there a reason most of you live in the past? is not your life in the now a good one?
move on already.

yesterday is but a memory, today is now, and who knows what the future may bring.

Wonder who had to pay for a voucher?

We didnt.

Regarding anonymous:
"Our son made the team and will be moving to Owatonna very soon. Because of our own personal reasons; we do not wish, nor does he, for him to billet with a family that has donated to the team... "

a Parent of player: I think you're reading way too much into the discussions on this board. Although I haven't seen a list of donors, I would have to imagine that a good majority of the billets donated not because they had a hidden agenda, but because they have seen what a properly run and coached team can do for these boys. They want those opportunities to continue and to see that happen, they've given money to the organization. I'm not sure what hidden agenda can be reached by donating to a team, especially when hosting a player continues to cost them money.

I wish your son the best here-it's a wonderful town and he will be surrounded by supportive people--whether or not they gave money to the team. If he takes advantage of the opportunities given to him and is a disciplined young man, he will excel.

and this all has to do with Troy Puente how?

Anonymous said...

I heard he was acting like a jerk, and had a tantrum. For what? I had to pay $6.00 for a ticket. Big whoop.......FMC

Anonymous said...

Get to know Troy before you make comments on him. Because you heard something does not give you a right to assume you know him. If you look at his points they are all most all from assist's he's a team player and always there for the team.

Troy throw a fit? What game were you watching? Troy is a laid back, nice guy, and a team player. Come to a game and find out.

- Point of clarification: The comments you are replying to were not about Troy Puente. This thread was hi-jacked, and people are referring to things that happened last year, not anything to do with Troy.

Troy is one of my favorite players this year, and I couldn't come up with anything bad to say about him if you put a gun to my head.
