Big Kahuna All-Time Express Team

With nothing newsworthy happening today, I want to wrap up this loose end. So, without further ado, here's the Big Kahuna All-Time Express Team:

G - Nick Hopper
G - Lars Paulgaard
D - Chris Barth
D - Stu Bickel
D - Jeff Carlson
D - Tim Kirby
D - Brian Schack
D - Rob Spalding
F - Brian Arrigoni
F - Ben Beaudoin
F - Alex Coles
F - James Gaulrapp
F - Joel Gaulrapp
F - Ryan Guentzel
F - Dusty Jackson
F - Mike Montgomery
F - Sean Murphy
F - Jamie Ruff
F - Jason Wiley
F - CJ Willms

Starting Lineup:

- Goalie: Nick Hopper - I gave Hopper the nod over Paulgaard due to his 31-8 record after coming to the Express., and he was 17 years old when he did it.

- Defensemen: Jeff Carlson & Chris Barth - Carlson was an easy choice, he had a great 2 year stint with the Express. Barth was a little more difficult choice as a starter, but I chose him for the way he affected the game when he was on the ice. His presence opened up the ice for the bevy of talented scoring threats the first year.

- Forwards: Dusty Jackson, Sean Murphy, and Jamie Ruff - Obviously it's hard to narrow it down as they are all outstanding choices. I really liked Jackson's overall game, and Murphy and Ruff were electric on the ice.

Well I'm, guessing you might have your own opinion, so if you disagree, let's hear what you have to say. If you don't like one of my picks, tell me who you would replace him with.

Also, don't forget the preseason game this Friday night against Fairbanks at 6:00pm at the 4 Seasons Centre. See you at the rink.

Is beer going to be served?
At what cost this year?
If we dont get free drink tickets anymore what is the price?

I do not agree with your All Time Express Team.

Sorry, guess I just like each and every player for the past few years.

Did not have any favorites.

Many kids did not get as much ice time as the stars and I hope this year it will change.

You should care more about the game, and not the "free" drink tickets!

On the official Express website, they were looking for volunteers including "beer sales", so it looks like you will be able to tip back a cold one. As far as price goes, I guess we'll find out at the home opener.

- This wasn't a list of my favorite players, it was a list of who I think performed the best on the ice. It in no way was meant as a slight towards the guys who aren't on the list. I have had the pleasure of getting to know most every player that has played for the Express, and consider many of them my friends. There has been only a few that I really didn't care for. My list of favorite players would be different from the All-Time Team.

Big Kahuna's All-Time Favorite Express players would look something like this: Brian Arrigoni, Scott Barrera, Jimmy Becker, Josh Carlson, Stan Carsky, Ban Danford, Teddy Falk, Nathan Hardy, Dusty Jackson, Spencer MacMillan, Kyle Olson, Ami Peled, Benoit Quessandier, Jordan Singer, and Vince Unklesbay.

Bk, thought you worked for the team?

looks like we can bring our own cold ones for the game next weekend.

- I'm not sure exactly what you meant by the statement. The guys that give the Express the best chance of winning should be on the ice, pure and simple. This isn't Park & Rec T-Ball where everybody gets equal time regardless of ability, if you want ice time you need to earn it by practicing hard and performing on the ice. That is just my opinion, and I fully trust Coach Cullen to do what is in the best interest of the organization.

Wonder why we do not charge money for the game against the Ice Dogs? Seems a good way to raise money I would think?

"Bk, thought you worked for the team?"

- I never meant to give that impression. This blog is something I decided to undertake earlier this summer as a creative outlet, and a way to kill some time. The blog in no way is sanctioned by the Express organization.

Heard from one of last years players that where they are playing now is a pretty bad building. But they had over 500 paid attendance for a scrimmage. Do not know why we are not charging with one of the better buildings in the league.

Wonder who you are talking about ANON above me? Could that be the Machine?
Probably is and you wonder why we don't charge money for the preseason game?
Fact, we are run by town locals that do not want to charge for the first game.
Why are you complaining?
Its free. Why worry about Schneider anymore? That group has deeper pockets than all of us combined.

Would've been wise for the marketing folks to publicize the free admission to the exhibition game as being some sort of Fan Appreciation promotion. Maybe have $1 hot dogs and $1 sodas too.

500 paid tickets is more than we ever had that I know of. I volunteered year 1 and that is a huge showing for paid tickets.

We had way too many free tickets. Now that we formed the team we need to think of ways to raise money not give it away.

It is almost Hockey Time.

Wonder if the new jerseys have come in yet. Anxious to see them.

B.K.

I would say two players that should have been on the all time team for sure would have to be Brodhag, he scored close to 30 goals as a rookie. Lipinski he was the best all time Express defensive forward, great P.K.

All time team should of haved Brodhag scored close to 30 goals as a rookie, and Lipinski best all time defensive forward in Express history.

First reason there will be no charge, is that this is going to be more of a controlled scrimmage than a game.

Second, there needs so some goodwill reestablished between the community and the team after last years disaster.

Put the goods out there for people to see, so they what they are being asked to spend money on. Good move I think.

"Wonder if the new jerseys have come in yet. Anxious to see them." - I heard they are in, and they are "pretty cool". Also heard that the Express will be wearing their blue jerseys for home games, as opposed to the white jerseys traditional worn at the home barn.

"they had over 500 paid attendance for a scrimmage." - According to Pointstreak, the Express averaged 713 in attendance for last season. Which of those 2 numbers is more believable??

We plan to attend the free scrimage. We also plan to attend a few games this year also. We attended a few games last year for the first time and it was good fun and our kids loved it.

So will we have to bring own own beer and snacks?

- As of right now, I haven't seen anything official from the organization.

I'd highly advise that people not start up their grills inside the arena. It may not work out so well with the smoke alarms.
