Express Article In Today's Paper

There is an article about the Express in today's Owatonna People's Press. Read it here: http://owatonna.com/news.php?viewStory=28711

Highlights from the article:

- The 25 guys on the ice included Jake Pence, Kyle Kozelka, and Grant Paulson who according to the article will not play with the Express this year. Pence is just getting some ice time before reporting back to his professional team (Ft. Wayne Komets of the IHL), and Kozelka/Paulson are just getting their skates under them before the high school season.

- Cullen said the complete roster will be released tomorrow.

- Players on the ice: G-Pat Arnason, G-Adam Buegler, D-Troy Puente, D-Tim Smith, F-Joe Beaudette, F-Nate Percy, F-Zach Vierling, and F-John Kruse.

My take: I knew that Pence and Kozelka were practicing with the team, and hadn't heard that Paulson was. Jake Pence is a great guy, and I love the idea of the guys having him on the ice. Hopefully some his work ethic and attitude rub off on the Express.

I had heard rumors that Joe Beaudette had made the Fargo Force of the USHL, even though he wasn't listed on their roster that was released last week. So this is good news for us that he is in camp.

Dear B.K.:

What are your thoughts about how deep our lines on new team will be?Size wise we are small and do not look physical, any thoughts?

its nice to have some big guys but speed and skill kill. I would take speed and skill over size any day of the week. all you need is a couple grinders a team plus one maybe two fighters.

"What are your thoughts about how deep our lines on new team will be?Size wise we are small and do not look physical, any thoughts?" - It's just too early to figure out how deep the Express roster will be. To speculate for a second, from what I saw at tryout camp I think at a minimum we should have a couple of solid lines, and a nice grinder line. We need to see them in action for a couple of games before we'll really even begin to know what we've got. Just remember the Alexandria last year went to the Robertson Cup with basically one really good line (Lickteig, Freismuth, Nesper).

Frankly, I'm not that worried about the size issue, and actually I'm not sure there is a size issue.
As anonymous #2 said "speed and skill kill". The Central Division historically, has not been as physical as the rest of the NAHL, so it's not as necessary to be big and physical than if we were in the South Division. If you forced me to choose, I would rather have a tough guy than a big guy.

There will be plenty of time to discuss these issues after we've actually see the guys in game action.

The team has had 2 a day practices all this week. FRiday, just one, and Saturday a scrimmage. Sunday they are off and Monday & Tuesday they are back to 2 a days. Heard that the first practices have been tough.
